Buzz Outstepping Neil?

Buzz Aldrin (the dancer?)
It may have been "one small step" 40 years ago for Neil, but Buzz Aldrin is trying to one-up by making many more steps in season 10 of Dancing with the Stars. Among the fairly usual casting of a football player, singer, Olympian, a starlet and the original octo-mom, our favorite-to-win Buzz will do his best to show that the accomplishment of walking on the moon after 40 years of age can be matched with one after 40 more years.

Buzz is making the right move - topping walking on the moon is not easy. Getting a toy named after you is nice, but this may actually give him the stage to bring space into the collective evening mind, as no other prime-time show does that anymore. 40 years ago people were glued to their TVs watching NASA astronauts and their whereabouts. Nowadays reality shows that keep regurgitating themselves seem to be all the rage.

Ashley Costa (insert: Andrea)
Buzz was paired with Ashley Costa, seen here with a facial expression that reminds me of Andrea from the Star Trek episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?". Wrong space guy, I guess. After all, one of our favorite Canadians, Bill S., will turn 80 next year...

I hear the producers tried to get Charles Bolden to come and dance on the show, but he is busy on a tour this year, pitching his own program to a much tougher crowd than Len, Carrie-Ann and Bruno, namely the Senate and Congress, though now that I think of it, those two always provide endless hours of fun and good use of our money.

I'm curious to know what music Buzz will dance to. Will it be space-movie music? There are lots of those to give us a glimpse of potential futures we'll never live to see. Either way, Buzz, make sure you incorporate a moon walk in your routine, as homage to Apollo as well as Michael Jackson.

So good luck, Buzz. We're rooting for you. Also, now that the ISS has a permanent Internet connection, you're sure to get the orbital votes as well. I wish I could say the same about the Lunar and Martian votes, but you'll have to wait 40 more years (hopefully not more) for that...

Good post - like it :)
When are you going to do your own 'dancing with the stars' - the real stars that is?

Fine question. I'm working on the next phase. Will report when it's a reality...

I'm also very curious to know which songs are chosen for him! (And really, they tried to get Bolden?? LOL, let's be glad he turned them down. He has enough on his plate right now!)

Well, if they did ask Bolden, he may have said that even though the ultimate destination is winning the competition, he didn't know what season or how many robotic contestants NASA would send before actually sending humans :-)
